Part-Time Summer Park Maintenance

Job Description

Responsible to: Township Zoning /Code Enforcement Office (CEO) or Township Foreman

Definition of Job:  Must apply in person and is able to perform all reasonable maintenance and ground work tasks as directed by either the Township Zoning/CEO or Township Foreman.


  1. Parks and Playgrounds – to maintain the grounds, building, and equipment at the Township parks and playgrounds including mowing, painting, weeding, making repairs to equipment, removing garbage, trimming, etc.
  2. Roadside Ditches and Swales – to clean the grounds in and along all Township drainage swales including the use of hand mower, weed eater, riding mowers, and other hand or power tools as directed.
  3. Roadwork – To assist where possible and as needed with any roadwork including the painting of lines on the roadway surface and flagging.
  4. Building & Equipment – to clean and maintain, including painting, all Township buildings and equipment as directed including removing the garbage at the Township office building.
  5. Transfer Station/Recycling Center – to assist where needed at the Transfer Station and the Recycling Center.
  6. Perform all other reasonable tasks as directed.


Applicant must have a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to Township residents.


  1. Applicant must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds without injury.
  2. Applicant must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, all day long.
  3. Applicant must be able to mow grass/weeds and cut brush all day without problems.
  4. Applicant must be able to operate mower, weed whackers and other hand tools for cutting weeds/grass/brush.
  5. Applicant must be poison ivy and pollen resistant.

Part Time Transfer Station Laborer Position

Responsible to: Transfer Station Operator

Definition of Job: This is a part -time position that involves the
ability to operate the scale house at the Washington Township Transfer Station.
Must be willing to learn to perform all the duties of the assistant transfer station operator.
Being able to work Saturdays is a must.


  1. Scale House:
  2. To operate the scale house and provide proper weights for customers.
  3. Assist with Transfer Station Operations:
  4. Assist customers with their loads as required.
  5. Determine proper fees for the different types and amounts of refuse.
  6. Be responsible for the collection of those fees when the operator is
  7. not available.
  8. Assist with the appliances and equipment dismantling.
  9. Equipment Operations:
  10. Learn the operations and operate all hydraulic equipment at the station.
  11. Learn to operate such accessory equipment that may from time to time be
  12. necessary for the proper operation of the station.
  13. Pennsylvania Driver’s License required.
  14. Perform all other duties of the transfer station operation in the event of the
  15. Be responsible for maintaining the grounds around the transfer station
  16. Provide quick and courteous assistance as necessary to each customer.
  17. Help direct traffic when needed. 
  1. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Applicant must be able to perform the essential duties
  1. Hours/Days of Employment. –This position is a part-time position. Schedule will be set by the transfer station operator.
  2. Benefits.– The township will provide Workers Comp, Unemployment Compensation, and Social Security benefits. 
  1. Applicant must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  2. The applicant must be able to read the scale and complete the appropriate math to provide the correct weights for each customer.
  3. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license

Red Run Park Miniature Train

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to drive the train.

The Township is still in need of volunteer train engineers and conductors to keep the Red Run Express running on weekends at Red Run Park. The Township will assist and pay for your child abuse history clearance and criminal record check.     

If you are interested in making young folks happy by providing free train rides for them, please contact Vern Ashway at the Township office at 717-762-3128. The Township will provide the needed training to operate the train.
