WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

Washington Township Police Department located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania will be establishing a Police Officer Eligibility list to fill open positions for patrol officers.  Our department proudly serves and protects 40 square miles of a growing, diverse community with a population of over 14, 000 residents and many businesses.  Washington Township borders Adams County, Pennsylvania and Washington & Frederick County, Maryland. 

Physical agility and written test has been scheduled for Saturday May 8, 2021 at the Washington Township Police Department.

The successful candidate must:

  • be at least 21 years of age
  • possess a valid driver’s license
  • possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a GED
  • pass physical agility test, pass written test & pass oral board interview
  • pass physical exam, psychological exam, drug screen, vision exam
  • pass thorough background exam & credit check
  • if not currently Act 120 Certified must be able to attend and successfully complete the required educational requirements to become Act 120 certified
  • must have successfully completed Act 120 Certification OR be able to successfully complete police academy training starting in September 2021

Washington Township Police Department offers a starting salary in 2021 of $53,786.58 along with an excellent benefit package and retirement plan.

Transfer Station Attendant Full-Time and Part-Time

* Responsible to: Transfer Station Operator Definition of Job: To operate the scale house at the Washington Township Transfer Station. To learn to perform all the duties of the assistant transfer station operator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Scale House:

  • To operate the scale house and provide proper weights for customers.

2. Assist with Transfer Station Operations:

  • Assist customers with their loads as required.

  • Determine proper fees for the different types and amounts of refuse.

  • Be responsible for the collection of those fees when the operator is not available.

  • Assist with the appliances and equipment dismantling.

3. Equipment Operations:

  • Learn the operations and operate all hydraulic equipment at the station.

  • Learn to operate such accessory equipment that may from time to time be necessary for the proper operation of the station.

  • Pennsylvania Driver’s License required.

4. Perform all other duties of the transfer station operation in the event of the temporary absence of the transfer station operator.

5. Be responsible for maintaining the grounds around the transfer station.

6. Provide quick and courteous assistance as necessary to each customer. Help direct traffic when needed.

7. Perform all other duties as directed by the transfer station operator or the Township Manager.

8. To monitor and/or assist single stream recycling and electronics process 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Applicant must be able to perform the essential duties.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Hours/Days of Employment. –

Full-Time Position – 40 hour work week, Monday through Saturday. This position will offer paid time off, paid holidays, health insurance and other benefits. The township will provide Workers Comp, Unemployment Compensation, and Social Security benefits.  

Part-Time – Schedule will be set by the Transfer Station Operator. This position offers paid time off. The township will provide Workers Comp, Unemployment Compensation, and Social Security benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Applicant must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

  • The applicant must be able to read the scale and complete the appropriate math to provide the correct weights for each customer.

  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license

Red Run Park Miniature Train
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 
to drive the train.

The Township is still in need of volunteer train engineers and conductors to keep the Red Run Express running on weekends at Red Run Park. The Township will assist and pay for your child abuse history clearance and criminal record check. If you are interested in making young folks happy by providing free train rides for them, please contact Vern Ashway at the Township office at 717-762-3128. The Township will provide the needed training to operate the train.
