Living History at Monterey Pass

On April 13th and 14th Monterey Pass Battlefield, Inc. had a living history demonstration. We had old time pictures taken, and a surgeon demonstrating his skills at the Museum. We also had a lot of soldiers along with a Union Calvary Unit.

And so the reenactment of the Battle of Monterey Pass was reenacted on Saturday and Sunday.
The Confederates set up an earthworks along Billy Yank trail as they did in 1863 to protect the wagon train.
The spectators stood to the side of the earthworks on Billy Yank Trail.
You could hear the Union Soldiers moving in the woods but couldn’t see them. Then all of a sudden a shot rang out and the battle started.

As the battle raged you could see that this was exactly how the battle went, in that the Soldiers were moving tree to tree and tripping over brush, shooting, reloading, men shouting orders, the cannons kept firing and the Union kept coming closer and closer. Then the Union Calvary showed up and we had Malay with Confederate and Union Infantry and Union Calvary all shouting and shooting at close quarters in the woods.

It was exciting as a spectator to actually feel like you were in the battle. The Calvary came within feet of us, what fun!
