Washington Township owns and maintains four parks located within the Township boundaries – Red Run Park, Pine Hill Regional Recreational Area, Happel’s Meadow Wetland, and Antietam Meadow Park.
While Red Run, Pine Hill, and Happel’s Meadow have been in existence for many years, Antietam Meadow Park is new, and the Antietam Meadow Park Committee along with the Antietam Watershed Association and Washington Township personnel are in the process of designing this newest addition to the Washington Township Parks and Recreation Department.
Our parks are open to all who wish to use them, whether you are a resident of the Township or not. Each park has unique qualities and offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Red Run and Pine Hill both have pavilions available for rent for group activities by calling the Township office, or for use on a first come, first served basis without reservation.
There is play equipment at each of these two parks, and Red Run Park has a creek running through it and a bandstand with live bands on Sundays provided free of charge, all summer long.
Happel’s Meadow is a wetland preserve, and while it is beautiful to drive by during certain times of the year, the Township is planning ways to make this park more accessible and hands-on to the general public. An adjoining parcel of land was acquired recently for use as a parking area and possibly a future nature center. These plans are a ways off, but with this unique wetland area located in the Blue Ridge Summit area, it provides an opportunity for viewing the very natural beauty of nature.
