The 9-11 Tribute Committee mission is to find the best way to display the 9-11 artifacts to honor the victims and provide a location where we will always remember what happened on 9-11. A subcommittee was formed to incorporate all the essential features into one design including but not limited to the model designs presented during the 18 October 2011 first committee meeting. The design structure has a pentagon base (inscribed pentagon in a 30 diameter) and 18.5 roof height. Three walls will be eighteen inches high with three openings for visitors. Two walls will be three feet high. A laser cut and etching process will be used to create a blending of Pentagon, New York City and Shanksville skyline images. The images will be mounted on the interior two back walls. Plaques will be mounted on the interior side of all five support columns. Three plaques will describe what happened in the appropriate event direction, and the other two will describe the efforts of responders and resulting casualties during and after the attack. The structure has a central presentation of the Twin Towers, Pentagon and Shanksville artifacts. To display the three artifacts the I-beam centered with the Pentagon and Shanksville artifacts forward and flanking the I-beam. Using the laser cut and etching process, the Twin Towers and a plaque will be included in the central presentation. The existing war memorial and cannon located in Rouzerville will be moved to the Site at Red Run Park. The 9-11 Tribute will be constructed as shown on the Site Plan interconnected with the War Memorial and cannon with pavers that blend with the veneers of the Red Run sign and the 9-11 Tribute. The path between the War Memorial and 9-11 Tribute is shaped with curves to allow visibility toward the 9-11 Tribute structure. The Red Run Park Sign will be relocated and constructed to match the construction veneer of the 9-11 Tribute. A variety of plants have been selected to soften all of the concrete, pavers and stone. The boxwood variety is very low, growing to eventually be 20-24 tall in 10+ years. The azaleas are low approximately 24-28 tall. The burning bush are taller, 4-5, and provide a break from the rest of the park. Adding the plant break will provide slightly more privacy. The bench location provides an opportunity for people to stop, sit and enjoy the entire setting. This will encourage reflection about our second day of infamy. Parking blocks are suggested to designate where we would like cars to park.
